ABBYY FlexiCapture Simple Workflow

What is the ABBYY FlexiCapture?

ABBYY FlexiCapture is a powerful data capturing and document processing solution. It is a huge, flexible and customizable system covering business processes of any complexity. However, solving most tasks does not require a complex workflow, and ABBYY FlexiCapture has a built-in document processing pipeline that works out of the box and does not require special skills to configure it.

The first stage of the ABBYY FlexiCapture simple workflow is importing documents into ABBYY FlexiCapture. Import can be configured from a local or network folder, an FTP server or from an email box using different network protocols (IMAP, POP3 or MAPI). Automatic service picks documents up from a source at a specified time interval. Special settings can be applied to documents during the import allowing improving the quality of the image, such as despeckling, deskewing, removing color marks and so on.

The next step is the recognition: the text layer is excreted from the image using OCR technology, then data capturing is performed using different customizable templates. Data capturing technology is quite extensive and needs to be clarified separately.

Then the recognized document enters the verification stage. This is the only interactive stage that requires human involvement. The verification process consists of checking:

  • the correctness of character recognition;
  • how well the pages are assembled;
  • the results of validation rules application.

The verification procedure in the ABBYY FlexiCapture is developed taking into account the features of the operator’s physiology (habit formation, use of visual perception). The core of the verification process is to check and, if necessary, correct the symbols marked by ABBYY FlexiCapture as recognized with the low confidence.

A verified document can be sent further along the ABBYY FlexiCapture workflow for automatic export, or to the exception stage if it has any errors. Such documents might require additional attention from the senior verification operator.

After the verification stage, verified documents without errors are automatically exported according to the specified export settings. ABBYY FlexiCapture can use built-in tools that allow you to export captured data to multiple sources, such as data files (CSV, XML, XLS), ODBC-compatible databases, MS SharePoint, or any other destinations using script export.

Summing up we can that ABBYY FlexiCapture Simple workflow allows covering complex business processes related to the recognition, capture, and validation of data.
