Check capture that shows its work
WiseCHECK IQ reads checks and MICR lines, tests every value against the check itself, and tells your verifier why. Use it on WiseTREND One Portal, or behind ABBYY FlexiCapture for the checks it leaves incomplete.

WiseCHECK IQ is WiseTREND's check and MICR capture product. It reads the check, tests the MICR line, amounts, date, signature and fraud signals with 73 published deterministic rules, and returns the values with a verdict and the reasons for it. By default nothing is auto-approved. It runs on WiseTREND One Portal at my.wisetrend.com/wisecheck, where you upload check images and review each item on a per-check trace, and as an AI backup reader behind ABBYY FlexiCapture, which stays the primary reader and hands over only the checks it leaves incomplete.
Two ways to use WiseCHECK IQ
- On WiseTREND One Portal. Sign in at my.wisetrend.com/wisecheck, upload check faces as PNG, JPEG, TIFF or PDF, and open each item as a per-check trace: every field, where its value came from, and every rule that fired. Items that need a person wait in one exception queue, and results export as CSV or JSON with account numbers masked. Straight-through posting is off by default.
- Behind ABBYY FlexiCapture. FlexiCapture stays the primary reader; WiseCHECK IQ reads only the checks it leaves incomplete and fills the empty fields with a verdict and the reasons. The rest of this page covers that integration.
Both use the same engine and the same 73 published validation rules. The launch article walks through the One Portal app.
Why do checks end up in the verification queue?
A tuned FlexiCapture check project is fast, cheap and auditable on the stock it was built for. The cost of a check run sits in the tail: the items it reads only partly, which a person then keys by hand. Four things put a check there.
- Handwriting. On a personal check the date, payee, courtesy amount and legal amount are all written by a person.
- Unfamiliar stock. A layout the project has never seen has no FlexiLayout to match, and building one per issuer stops scaling past the issuers you can predict.
- Degraded images. Faxed, photocopied or skewed items leave unread characters in the MICR band, and one unread digit turns a clean account number into a verification task.
- Fields with no witness. The account number has no check digit and, on most stock, nothing else on the page to compare it with.
How does WiseCHECK IQ work with ABBYY FlexiCapture?
FlexiCapture stays the primary reader and runs exactly as it does today. One event handler looks at its result. If the routing number passes the ABA check digit and the account, serial, date and amount are all present, nothing else happens. If not, the page goes to WiseCHECK IQ, which reads it, runs its rules and sends back values, a verdict and the reasons. The handler fills only the fields FlexiCapture left empty.
Because complete reads never leave FlexiCapture, the AI is spent only on the items that would otherwise be keyed by hand. The FlexiCapture integration page covers the handler, the Status field and what stays unchanged in your project.
What does WiseCHECK IQ check?
A check proves parts of itself: the routing number carries a check digit, the amount is written twice, the serial is printed twice. WiseCHECK IQ tests those links with rules. No rule reads a confidence score.
MICR line and routing number
The MICR line is re-parsed by structure. The routing number must pass the ABA check digit, sit in an assigned prefix range and agree with the printed fraction.
MICR rulesCourtesy vs legal amount
WiseCHECK IQ parses the written amount itself and compares it with the numerals. UCC 3-114 says the words govern, and a disagreement still goes to a person.
Amount rulesDate, stale and post-dated
More than six months old, post-dated, or past a printed void-after legend or expiration date. Cashier's checks and money orders get the rules that actually apply to them.
Date rulesSignature and payee
A missing signature or a blank payee blocks the item. So does a legend like "two signatures required over $1,000" when the second signature is missing.
Signature rulesFraud flags
Printed serial against MICR serial, fraction against routing number, an amount field already encoded, VOID overprints, and duplicates or altered copies within a batch.
Fraud rulesThe account number
It has no check digit, yet it decides which account the money leaves. WiseCHECK IQ tests that it can be assembled from the MICR line and says when nothing else witnesses it.
Account rulesWhat does the per-check trace show?
Every item WiseCHECK IQ decides on can be written up as a per-check trace: one page that shows what was read, what the check proved about itself and why the verdict came out the way it did. The proofs are recomputed from the rules when the trace is produced, never typed in by hand. The trace format covers:
- Each field read, with where on the check it came from
- How the MICR line was split into routing, account and serial
- The proofs: ABA check digit, fraction against routing, serial in each place it appears, amount across its witnesses
- Where two readers disagreed and which test settled it, when there were two readers
- Every finding, with its rule and severity (STRICT, SOFT or INFO)
- The verdict (AUTO, REVIEW or EXCEPTION) and the date it applies to
Traces of real checks carry real payer data, so they stay internal; the check at the top of this page is a synthetic specimen with its numbers masked.
Three verdicts, one rule for each
- AUTO
- No STRICT or SOFT finding, and the amount has two independent witnesses on the face, or one plus a stub whose lines add up to it.
- REVIEW
- A SOFT finding, or too few independent amount witnesses. A person looks before it posts.
- EXCEPTION
- Any STRICT finding. The item stops and goes to the exception queue.
Through FlexiCapture, an item the AI filled still reaches a verifier whatever the verdict.
How can WiseCHECK IQ be deployed?
The same service, in the place your documents are allowed to go. Your team signs in at WiseTREND One Portal.
Hosted by WiseTREND
An HTTPS endpoint WiseTREND runs for you. Nothing to host: your FlexiCapture handler calls it with an API key.
In your cloud tenancy
The service runs in your own cloud subscription or data center, against your own AI service agreements, so check images stay inside your boundary.
On the FlexiCapture server
For on-premises projects the service sits on the FlexiCapture application server and is called over loopback. Only the outbound AI calls leave the machine.
What have we measured so far?
We publish every figure with its denominator. These come from an evaluation corpus of 81 scanned pages, not from a client's production run.
| Measure | Result | Out of |
|---|---|---|
| Items cleared straight through, at each item's presentment date | 60.0% | 18 of 30 negotiable items |
| Field values two independent readers agreed on (agreement, not accuracy) | 91.6% | fields both readers populated, 24 scored fields |
| Adversarial rule self-test | 99 of 99 pass | 99 test cases |
We don't have an accuracy figure yet, because no client-keyed ground truth exists to compare against. Everything else, including what we haven't measured, is on the results page.
Can a second AI reader check the first?
That is where the product is going. The engine behind FlexiCapture today reads each check once. WiseCHECK IQ is connectable to WiseAI Council, which can seat a model from a different lineage to read the same check. The Council reads; WiseCHECK IQ decides. How the second reading works.

Questions about WiseCHECK IQ
Answers written for buyers, operations teams, search engines and AI assistants.
Can WiseCHECK IQ read handwritten checks?
Yes. Handwritten dates, payees and amounts are the main reason a check reaches the AI backup. The written amount is parsed from the words and compared with the numerals, and a disagreement between them is never auto-posted: it goes to a person.
Does WiseCHECK IQ produce X9.37 image cash letter files?
No. WiseCHECK IQ returns field values, findings and a verdict to FlexiCapture or to the system that called it. It does not create X9.37 or X9.100-187 image cash letter files. That stays with your remote deposit or banking platform. An optional Check 21 integration is available: WiseTREND connects WiseCHECK IQ's verified data to the platform that builds those files, scoped per project.
How does WiseCHECK IQ handle duplicate checks?
The duplicate rules compare items processed together in a batch. The same routing, account and serial with the same amount is a duplicate; with a different amount it is flagged as a possible alteration. Matching against your deposit history is not built yet.
Send us the checks that reach your verification queue
The handwritten ones, the bad scans, the stock you have no layout for. We'll run them through WiseCHECK IQ and show you, item by item, what it read, what it checked and why it decided what it did.
