Key takeaway

In September 2026 WiseTREND checked the pricing of 80 e-invoicing and Peppol providers. Published prices run from $0 (bundled in accounting software or free tiers) to about $1 per document, and 39 of the 80 publish a full price list. At list prices WiseTREND costs $0 for companies sending up to 50 invoices a month and for receive-heavy AP teams (receiving is free through 2027), and $0 in year 1 for 2026 Business sign-ups. For pure senders at mid volume, flat-fee portals such as B2Brouter are cheaper.

What does it cost to send and receive e-invoices in 2026? At list price, anything from $0 to roughly $1 per document, and the spread for the same company can be larger than 70 to 1. We checked the pricing of 80 e-invoicing and Peppol providers on 24 September 2026. 39 publish a full price list, 14 publish part of it, and 27 only quote. Among enterprise networks, just 2 of 16 publish full prices.

This article summarizes that research: the pricing models on the market, what each segment charges, the costs that don't show up on a pricing page, and five business profiles priced at 12 providers, WiseTREND included. We also say plainly where our own e-Invoices & Peppol pricing is the best deal and where it isn't.

Why did we research e-invoicing prices?

We run a certified Peppol Access Point and SMP, and in September we published list prices for it. Before that we wanted to know what a buyer actually pays elsewhere, in the currencies they pay in, for the volumes they really have. Public comparisons tend to list a headline "from" price and stop there. That hides the parts that decide the bill: whether received invoices count, what overage costs, and whether the price is per company, per user or per account.

The research sits in the same workbook as our 133-country mandate research. Mandates tell you when you have to connect, and this research tells you what connecting will cost once you do.

How did we collect and compare the prices?

Research agents worked through six segments. They read each provider's own pricing page first, then its terms or price PDFs. When a provider publishes nothing, we recorded that and, only where a reputable third-party listing exists, noted it as an estimate. Every provider row carries its sources, the date checked and a confidence note.

For the scenarios we used one rule for all 12 priced providers: take the cheapest published plan that covers the volume, including overage. When a provider prices "documents", "messages" or "transactions" without saying which direction, we counted sent and received together. EUR and SEK prices were converted at the ECB reference rates of 24 September 2026 (1 USD = EUR 0.87974). Prices exclude VAT.

Bar chart of 80 e-invoicing providers by segment: SME portals 9 of 11 publish full prices, accounting suites 15 of 19, regional specialists 9 of 18, AP/SMP infrastructure 2 of 12, enterprise networks 2 of 16, network bodies 2 of 4
Price transparency falls as deal size rises. Most enterprise networks quote only.

What pricing models do e-invoicing providers use?

Six models cover almost everything we found, and many providers mix two of them.

Behind every provider's price sits a fixed cost of being on the network. OpenPeppol membership for an Access Point and SMP provider runs EUR 2,750 to 8,250 a year plus EUR 2,500 certification, and DBNAlliance membership in the US runs $2,000 to $9,500 a year. That's why pure free tiers are small, and why providers that go free at scale usually earn the money elsewhere (an accounting subscription, a banking plan, or the buyer's side of a network).

What does each segment charge?

SME portals and APIs. This is the most transparent and most competitive segment. B2Brouter's Professional plan is EUR 110 a year with unlimited transactions. Recommand runs from free (25 documents a month) to EUR 349 a month for 5,000, with overage falling from EUR 0.30 to 0.07. Peppyrus stays free for 100 messages a month with unlimited receiving, and its new paid tiers (EUR 15, 49 and 149 a month) start on 1 November 2026. Billit, Qvalia and Peppox sell tiered subscriptions with included documents and overage.

Accounting suites. 15 of 19 publish full prices, and most of them include Peppol at no extra charge: Xero, Odoo, Exact Online, MYOB, Moneybird, Teamleader, Yuki, Visma and Reckon. Exceptions exist. Fortnox charges SEK 3 per sent and SEK 4.90 per received e-invoice on top of the base plan, and Zoho Books UAE sells e-invoicing as a metered add-on on its Professional plan and above.

Regional and mandate specialists. Pricing follows the local mandate. In the US, PeppolSoft charges $0.10 per received invoice with no subscription, and DocStudio prices per user. Poland's KSeF tools (Fakturownia, wFirma, WAPRO) and France's Plateforme Agréée offers (Pennylane, Qonto, Tiime) often include e-invoicing free or for a few euros a month to win the accounting relationship.

AP/SMP infrastructure and wholesale. Mostly quote-only. The published exceptions are useful reference points: Crediflow's reseller list runs EUR 0.31 down to 0.27 per invoice, and e-invoice.be offers a white-label Access Point at EUR 6,000 a month flat. Open-source stacks (phase4, phoss-SMP, Oxalis) are free to download but not free to run, certify and support.

Enterprise networks and compliance platforms. 12 of 16 quote only. Tradeshift publishes seller-side fees ($0.80 down to $0.30 per invoice, first 30 a quarter free). Babelway publishes message bundles from EUR 99 a month. ONESOURCE Pagero publishes a free tier of 36 documents a year and quotes above that. For the rest, third-party listings are the only public signal: Vendr puts Sovos at a median of about $26,400 a year, and ITQlick cites onboarding fees of $5,000 to $50,000 for some buyer-funded networks. Treat those as estimates, not quotes.

What drives the real cost beyond the headline price?

In the scenarios we priced, the headline "from" price rarely decided the bill. These did:

  • Whether receiving counts. For an AP team, received invoices are most of the volume. Count them, and the bill grows by thousands a year.
  • Overage cliffs. Included volume is cheap; the document after it may not be. Peppox charges EUR 0.89 per invoice above 1,000 a month on its company plan.
  • Per-company or per-user pricing. Group structures multiply fees. DocStudio prices per user; most portals price per company.
  • Minimums and packages. Prepaid packages and annual commitments move cost up front.
  • Per-country and onboarding fees. Avalara's US DBNAlliance service carries no document fees, but international markets are quoted separately. Enterprise onboarding is often a separate line.
  • Currency. Most Peppol providers price in EUR. A 5% move in EUR/USD moves a US buyer's bill by the same 5%.

What does WiseTREND charge?

WiseTREND bills sent invoices and credit notes only. Receiving, Peppol response messages, validation rejects and test sends are never billed, and the full details are on our pricing page.

How do the costs compare for real businesses?

* Assumes one account can hold all five entities. If the plan is per company, the group cost is higher. Fortnox excludes its accounting base plan. Peppyrus uses the tiers that take effect on 1 November 2026. e-invoice.be Enterprise (EUR 0.18) would lower its group figure.

Table of five business profiles: micro supplier and receive-heavy AP team tied cheapest at $0 with WiseTREND; small business $600 a year, 4th of 12; mid-size seller $4,203, 5th of 12; group of five entities $16,927, 5th of 9 and 38 to 74 percent below per-document plans; all $0 in year 1 for 2026 sign-ups

Where is WiseTREND pricing the best choice?

If you receive more than you send. This is the clearest case. An AP team receiving 1,500 invoices a month pays WiseTREND nothing through 2027, while providers that count received documents charge $2,000 to $9,200 a year for the same flow. Only Peppyrus matches it at $0 in our set.

Bar chart of annual cost for a company receiving 1,500 and sending 20 invoices a month: WiseTREND and Peppyrus $0, Tradeshift $96, B2Brouter $125, Recommand $2,060, Billit $3,791, Qvalia $4,078, e-invoice.be $5,183, Crediflow $6,220, Peppox $6,708, Fortnox $8,973, Babelway $9,207

If you sign up for Business in 2026. The first legal entity is free for 12 months, sends included, at any volume below Enterprise. A mid-size seller with 2,000 sends a month pays $0 in year one and then $4,203 a year at rates locked through 2027. No other provider in our set offers a free first year at that volume.

If you send up to 50 invoices a month. Free covers it with no time limit, and receiving stays free. Most free tiers elsewhere stop at 24 to 100 documents a year or a month, and several count received invoices against that allowance.

If you are comparing against networks and per-document pricing. WiseTREND publishes its enterprise-scale rates, down to $0.08 per sent invoice, pooled across all your entities. For the five-entity group in our set, that's 38% below Babelway and 67% to 74% below per-document providers at list price. Pooled bands also mean a new subsidiary doesn't restart at the top rate.

If Peppol is only part of the problem. Many suppliers will send PDFs and paper for years yet. WiseTREND adds IDP capture at $0.15 a page and AP automation on the same platform, backed by 27 years of ABBYY document-processing experience. We're a US company, we price in USD, and you can call us. If you need that mix, the cheapest Peppol-only portal isn't comparing like for like.

Where are other providers cheaper?

We'd rather you hear this from us.

  • Flat-fee portals for pure senders. B2Brouter's EUR 110 a year with unlimited transactions beats every per-invoice model for a single company that just needs a portal. Its integrated products (ERP sync, API) are quote-only, so the comparison changes if you need integration.
  • Mid-volume senders after year one. At 2,000 sends a month, Peppyrus ($2,032), Recommand ($2,714) and Qvalia ($4,078) come in below WiseTREND's $4,203 steady-state price.
  • Accounting-suite users. If you already run Xero, Odoo, Exact Online, MYOB, Moneybird or Visma, Peppol is included. Use it unless you need volume, multi-entity control or AP automation it doesn't cover.
  • Small senders between 51 and 350 invoices a month. At 300 sends a month our Free plan costs $600 a year, which is more than B2Brouter, Billit or Peppox.
Bar chart of annual cost for a company sending 2,000 and receiving 500 invoices a month: B2Brouter $125, Peppyrus $2,032, Recommand $2,714, Qvalia $4,078, WiseTREND after year 1 $4,203, Billit $6,195, Tradeshift $7,164, e-invoice.be $8,525, Babelway $9,207, Crediflow $10,230, Fortnox $10,232, Peppox $18,605

How should you choose an e-invoicing provider on cost?

Start from your own numbers, not the headline price. Pull 12 months of invoice counts split into sent and received, count your legal entities and users, and list the countries you invoice into. Then ask every shortlisted provider five questions:

  1. Do received invoices count against my plan, now and after any promotion ends?
  2. What does the first document above my included volume cost?
  3. Is the price per account, per company or per user?
  4. Which integrations (API, SFTP, ERP) are in the plan, and which are quoted?
  5. How much notice do you give before a price change, and can I lock rates?

If your profile looks like an AP team, a multi-entity group, or a 2026 sign-up that wants a free first year, start on WiseTREND One Portal or talk to us about Business and Enterprise volumes. To see which of your countries require e-invoicing and when, use the Global e-Invoice Mandates tracker. For how the Peppol network itself is changing, read Peppol and OpenPeppol in 2026.

Prices change often in this market. Peppyrus changes its tiers in November, for example. We re-run this research with our monthly mandate update and will refresh the figures here when they move.

How much does e-invoicing cost per invoice in 2026?

At the 80 providers WiseTREND checked in September 2026, published rates run from $0 (Peppol bundled in accounting software such as Xero, Odoo or Exact Online, or a free tier) to about $1 per document on small overage tiers. Most published per-document rates we found sit between about $0.08 and $0.50. Enterprise networks rarely publish prices; third-party estimates put some at $9,000 to $56,000 a year.

Is receiving Peppol e-invoices free?

It depends on the provider. WiseTREND, Peppyrus, Doccle and most bundled accounting suites don't charge for receiving, but many portals and per-document providers count received documents against the plan. For an AP team receiving 1,500 invoices a month, published prices ranged from $0 to about $9,200 a year in our comparison.

What does WiseTREND charge for Peppol e-invoicing?

WiseTREND bills sent invoices and credit notes only. Free includes 50 sent invoices a month, then $0.20 each up to 300 extra. Business is $995 a year (or $99 a month) per legal entity with pooled annual bands of $0.20, $0.12 and $0.08 per invoice. Receiving is free and unlimited through 31 December 2027. 2026 Business sign-ups get the first legal entity free for 12 months.

When is WiseTREND not the cheapest option?

If you send a few hundred to a few thousand invoices a month from one company and only need a portal, flat-fee providers such as B2Brouter (EUR 110 a year, unlimited transactions) or Peppyrus cost less after WiseTREND's launch year. If you already pay for Xero, Odoo, Exact Online or MYOB, Peppol is included in that subscription.

How was this pricing research done?

Research agents read each provider's own pricing pages and, where no price was published, reputable third-party listings, which we label as estimates. The pass closed on 24 September 2026. EUR, SEK and AED prices were converted to USD at the ECB reference rates of that day. Scenario costs use each provider's cheapest published plan for the volume.
